“That’s why we’re so excited when bands like Bootleg Rascal release new tunes. They’re great at melding dub and reggae together with a few of the other core sounds on the site: hip-hop and indie-folk, and their latest track, “Overflow” showcases their skills and diverse sound perfectly through a chill down tempo vibe.” | Hilldilly.com

“The aptly-named Bootleg Rascal came on next and filled the room with their own take, which was slightly more pure than that of the headliners.”

The Music - Jan 2014

Gold Coast-Sydney ... Bootleg Rascal follow, for their first ever show these guys do bloody well whipping the diverse crowd into frenzied dance with their mixture of dub and roots fleshed out with some blistering electronic chords from aptly named Jimmy.

News Unlimited (The Zoo) – 2013

BOOTLEG RASCAL open the night, their bass player looks like a chilled dude with over-sized glasses and a black and orange hoodie laying down the bass and set the mood. Those cute girls engage in dancing – even if they don’t know the songs. People are already vibing, a sea of bopping heads on the 2 and the 4. Their set is chilled and cruisey and feels like 10pm on a balmy summers night.

Kicking off the night was Sydney band Bootleg Rascal. Their tunes brought in a decent crowd for the early timeslot. The bands appearance was particularly quirky as two of the four had no shirts, and the drummer wore a pair of aviators for the whole set. The beers were definitely flowing on and off stage between the excellent guitar solos from Jimmy Young, a talented guitarist who went on to take the stage throughout all three acts. Bootleg Rascal also gave the crowd something special with a stylish cover of ‘Pony’ by Ginuwine. It was pretty darn cool

…[A] bunch of normal lads taking influences from Broken Bells, Citizen Cope, and Gorillaz …I can affirm that Bootleg Rascal are a bunch of fun-loving, approachable, and highly talented guys.

“…Continually building as a band. It goes without saying…”

Gemma Pyke (Triple J Unearthed) 2014

“They play a brand of music that is exceptionally relaxed… And it works. Watching them was like sitting on a tropical island and just letting each song roll over you like a wave… You couldn’t help but tap your foot along. That tap was infectious and soon your legs were moving too, and before long you weren’t sitting at the back of the bar watching some band, but instead were grooving along on the dance floor.”

Luke Dassaklis (The Music) 2014

“Bootleg Rascal fuse together dub, reggae, roots/folk, hip hop and disco, and thus escape easy classification”

Augustus Welby (The Brag) 2014
